Those old Wurlutzer & Rock Ola Juke Boxes still fascinate me. What great machines.
The really old Wur's may have played only ten 78's, but how it glided them
up to the "needle" was amazing. They, and the later Rock Olas, which played 40 45's,
almost never missed placing the stylus right on the record's lead in groove.
A cousin's Webcor 'Holiday Fonograf' was lucky if it landed the arm correctly
once out of ten cycles. Then again, Webcor couldn't spell 'phonograph.'
Were those Hula Hoops from Hawaii? Nah, China, perhaps a precursor of things
to come. But the Hula Hoop fad certainly didn't hurt Chubby Checker's remake
of Hank Ballard's The Twist. And to the dismay of Billy Graham,
the first fad British invasion, the bikini, swept the gal's bods and the guy's
eyes from Atlantic City Shore to New Mexico sunspots. We, at oldiestelevision.com,
had a blast assembling bits of Movietone news clips to The Olympic's 1957
rocker, Dance By The Light Of The Moon. We at OTV hope you enjoyed the
great memories as much as we had putting it all together.
