The Jordinaires, who backed Elvis on most of his early RCA hits.
Travelling with the King, the bocal group members
told a national fan magazine of an account where the King of Rock & Roll

browsing at an L.A. Cadillac dealer lot, overheard an elderly woman
tell a salesman she could not afford the price of a car she admired.
Elvis purchased the car for the woman who did not know at the time who her benefactor was.
Word from reliable sources told that Col. Tom Parker's stoic management hold made Elvis seem aloof to
charity calls. The buzz was that The King was more than willing to appear at charity
events and on TV telethons, such as Jerry Lewis' MD overnighter. Just as it ead Parker
who nixed Dick Clark's request to have Elvis on his Saturday night ABC show, not
only because Parker hated lip-synching, but because the show's overall budget was
too puny, save the loads of the sponsor's gum provided audience members.
While Parker was credited for getting Elvis a contract with record company giant
RCA, it was Sam Phillips at Elvis' former label, Sun, in Memphis. who initiated
the major label inking.
