The Harmonies That Never DieCall it Doo Wop, Street Corner Music or Backstreet Harmony, the shoobie-doops. wah-wah-oohs, and yip-yip-yips, et al vocal harmony, is endearing now as it was when songs like Sunday Kind Of Love was performed by countless vocal groups (The Harptones who had the hit {see below], The Moonglows, The Paragons, The Del Vikings, of course, covered by The Crew Cuts and revived by Sha Na Na) typically brings back memories of growing up on the East Side (or West) and the first kiss with your dream girl parked on the hilltop in your Chevy Impala or Olds 88. Wah-wah-ooh forever and...rock on!

The Teentones were a local New York boroughs area group who began their aspiration on Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour" as high school teenagers. While the group never made it to the music charts, that familiar looking guy to viewer left, second from the left, was then Bobby Klein. Years later, as Robert Klein, his stand up comedy had millions of audiences laughing on network television, especially repeat appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and The Tonight Show, as well as audiences at all the top night spots in Vegas, Hollywood, Tahoe and the Catskills.

"Sunday Kind Of Love" was first recorded and released not by a Doo Wop group, but by a single artist in 1952 - the legendary Etta James. Now that's a "Caddilac Record.' and probably worth almost as much in dollars if you have her original Chess vinyl '45. Nevertheless, while The Teentones lacquer demo never made it to commercial vinyl, unfortunately, The Harptones featuring Willie Winfield, broke into the top 20 national charts a few years later. The Passions, The Melokings, The Dubs performed album cuts or the song in their act, Reba McEntyre and Renee Olstead brought the song back in different styles more recently
