Note Thought it was Sullivan who introduced Elvis to America? No and The King never appeared on The Dick Clark Show. It was an unlikely big band show, "The Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey Show" that brought Elvis Presley to fawning teen girls, envious teen guys and wary parents in 1956, followed by Milton Berle. It was then Ed Sullivan, in 1957, who assured the cynical older generation that Elvis was "a fine, fine boy" and ended the waist-up-only camera censorship. Clobbered by Sullivan's CBS show in the ratings, competitor Steve Allen, who despised rock & roll, relented and had Elvis on his NBC show in the same 8-9PM Sunday slot.

For The Love Of Elvis We know our Oldies Television visitors love Elvis. That's why we have video music clips of The King from his first television appearance on The Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey Show in 1956 to this NBC Network special in 1970. And you know, at school talent shows, kids as young as five are wiggling their hips and singing Elvis tunes. Elvis. That's the wonder of The King Of Rock & Roll. You may remember some snide (likely envious) critics from those tabloids made uncalled for remarks about (and exaggerated) the King's weight gain at that at one of his final performances in Vegan he forgot the words to some of the late fifties oldies, but this great footage Oldies Television was fortunate enough to obtain clearly proves the reviewers wrong. Elvis' fans at the Vegas spots loved him, his performance, and his personna. Today we hear seven year old tykes sing Elvis songs at talent shows, Elvis songs made a half a century before these kids were even born. That is a legend. How much critic's cutting remarks had to do with Elvis' untimely death we will never know, what we do know is the True King of Rock & Roll, Pop, and all the genre of music he performed. Kind of Music Legends, Elvis Presley, is stilled loved by millions who not only love their oldies, but who love music and great performances.

Thousands of tourists visit Elvis' home every month. In New York, the Broadway Musical, "Million Dollar Quartet" showcases a Sun Records tribute to Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins & Jerry Lee Lewis. The Musical won a Globe award and plays to SRO crowds nightly.

Like Sinatra before him, Elvis Presley is a performing icon from the sixties to the present, As Ed Sullivan once said on live network television about Elvis, "I want you all to know this is a fine, fine boy." Ed's competitor stated (conceded), "I may not like Rock & Roll, but Elvis Presley's audience grabbing performance and personna is hard to beat." What say we at Oldies Television. "Elvis Presley is the true King of Rock & Roll now and forever." Yes, we stand firm on that over the Fab Four, Michael Jackson and Usher (and we know we'll get some hate mail for that statement, but that's the way we see it).
